The Festival Kreol takes its origins in the early 1980s when academics from Creole societies in the Indian Ocean and the Caribbean proposed that the 28th October be commemorated annually as an International Creole Day so as to raise awareness of Creole languages and cultures.
Seychelles have succeeded in weaving the various strands of its' diverse human and cultural heritage into a harmonious and fully integrated entity.
The Festival has posed its' mark as a vehicle for co-operation, particularly so in the field of culture, in the Indian Ocean and further afield, and seeks to bring Creole communities scattered around the world closer knitted.
The programme of the Festival covers a broad range of activities: conferences, poetry readings, musical and other artistic events, fashion shows, traditional games, special events for children, a street procession and special dinners offering the culinary delights of various Creole places world-wide.
