La
Digue lies 43 km from Mahe and 6 km from Praslin. It is
a superb island with huge pink granite boulders overlooking
beautiful beaches of pure white sand. Huts nestle among
the trees, rubbing shoulders with a remarkable flora and
fauna. It is a destination straight out of a dream for
those who want to get away from it all for a few days.
Lazing
on the tropical island of La Digue
Although
the island was discovered for the first time in 1744,
it was not until 1768 that it was named La Digue by Dufresne.
The
first thing visitors to La Digue appreciate is its typical
tranquility. Watch the workers peacefully going about
their tasks on the plantations. Take a ride on an "ox-taxi"
- there are only about twenty cars on the island - or
hire a mountain bike and set off to explore the paths
and trails around the island. Don't miss the picturesque
Yellow House, photographed hundreds of times, and considered
to be one of the most attractive in the archipelago.
And
finally, for a breathtaking and unforgettable experience,
go to Anse Source d'Argent in the evening, one hour before
sunset, when the light is at its most attractive, and
admire the charming scene lying before you : enormous
pink granite boulders framing small coves covered in warm
sand and shaded by coconut trees.
