Air Seychelles participates in BARSA aviation summit 2019

Air Seychelles has recently participated in the Board of Airline Representatives of South Africa (BARSA) summit held over one day in the high energy commercial centre of Johannesburg, Sandton.

Representing the voice of African and International airlines operating into South Africa, the second edition of the BARSA summit held on Thursday, 28 February, gathered over 200 key aviation and tourism stakeholders from both the public and private sectors.

Themed “Collaborate – Innovate – Disrupt: Propel to 2020”, the summit provided a great opportunity for subject matter experts to talk about innovation and disruption within the airline industry as well as the implication during the transformation of the industry and its business operations.

The national airline was represented at the event by Chief Commercial Officer, Charles Johnson, who was privileged to be amongst one of the speakers sitting at the high level panel discussion throughout one of the sessions.

Speaking at the event the Chief Commercial Officer, Charles Johnson highlighted: “The economic uncertainly in the South African market has softened demand to Seychelles, which remains under pressure from competing destinations like Mauritius.”

Following the deliberations and panel discussions on the various topics raised throughout the presentations, the closing session of the summit which culminated into a roadmap will see the participating airlines and stakeholders adopt practical steps centered around the theme “Collaborate and Innovate - Propel to 2020” such as investing in innovation as well as building more collaborations between partners within the travel and tourism sector to move the industry forward.

The end of the summit hosted at the Inanda Club proceeded into a cocktail event which further provided the ideal networking platform for aviation and tourism role players to meet, share and exchange ideas.
