Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, today celebrated flying the 500,000th passenger in 2015.

The lucky guest, Ms. Olivia Kahn from Paris, who was travelling with her partner Mr. William Kahn, was greeted by Air Seychelles representatives after landing at Seychelles International Airport on board flight HM17 from Paris Charles de Gaulle.

The couple, who were flying to Seychelles for a winter vacation, were presented with a special certificate and an upgrade to Business Class on their return flight to Paris.

On the same day, the airline welcomed its 180,000th guest on domestic flights. Ms. Sheirley Auguste, travelling with her mother Ms. Michelina Auguste. Ms. Auguste was surprised in the domestic terminal with complimentary tickets between Mahé and Praslin for her next journey.

The milestones were recorded year-to-date to 15 December and represent a significant increase in comparison to passenger figures for the whole of 2014, when Air Seychelles flew a total of 427,096 guests on its network of which 154,545 domestically.

Joël Morgan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Transport and Chairman of Air Seychelles, said: “Recording these milestones is an incredible achievement for Air Seychelles that demonstrates the continued growth of the airline and the success of our strategic plan, which is on track to meet and exceed targets for 2015.

“Our passenger numbers this year have been considerably boosted by the successful introduction of non-stop flights between Seychelles and Paris, as well as the enhancements to our domestic and regional network.

“These developments to the network and flight schedules have resulted in thousands more travellers discovering our islands and in turn, making an even bigger contribution to our tourism-based economy.”

Roy Kinnear, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, said: “There was great excitement at Seychelles International Airport this morning as our 500,000th guest disembarked the plane, as well as when we surprised our 180,000th interisland flier in the domestic terminal.

“It was a pleasure to celebrate these record achievements with our guests, a greater number of whom are choosing to fly with Air Seychelles every day, showing why we are the leading airline in the Indian Ocean region.

“Air Seychelles has added significant network capacity this year and we are confident that this growth will be reflected in our strong end of year results for 2015.”
